New protection measures for Selby Lake

AN ACCESS STICKER IS REQUIRED TO NAVIGATE ON SELBY LAKE

Whether you are a resident of Dunham or not an access permit is now mandatory to launch a motorized or non-motorized watercraft on Selby Lake.

By-law 429-21 concerning the protection of Selby Lake has been in effect since Fall 2021 and is available on the Town of Dunham’s website at this link: https://www.ville.dunham.qc.ca/wp-content/uploads/Reglement429-21_concernant_protection_lac_Selby.pdf

The access permit is in the form of a sticker that must be visibly displayed at all times on the starboard* side of your watercraft.
* Starboard : The right side of a boat when looking towards the bow, the front (opposite to port).

The Town of Dunham informs you of the installation of a WASHING STATION, for the following types of watercraft:

  • Motorized watercraft for non-taxpayers of the Town of Dunham (non-residents and non‑owners): all non-taxpaying users must, before launching a motorized watercraft, have it inspected and washed and have a valid certificate of completion for that watercraft. Please note that there is no public watercraft launch at the lake.
  • Taxpayer’s motorized watercraft: any taxpayer user (resident or owner) whose motorized watercraft has been navigating on a body of water located outside the territory of Dunham. If your watercraft did not navigate on other bodies of water, this element will be indicated when the access permit is issued.

A valid boat wash certificate (from the Town of Dunham or another municipality) is required for:

  • non-taxpayers of the Town of Dunham and owners of a motorized boat who wish to launch their boat on Selby Lake
  • taxpayers of the Town of Dunham and owners of a motorized boat who have sailed on a body of water other than Selby Lake
  • It is not mandatory to have a wash certificate for non-motorized boats, however, it is still recommended to wash your non-motorized boat before launching.

The sticker is mandatory for all watercraft except:

  • Any form of board (paddleboards, SUP, etc.)
  • All inflatable boats

Please note that if you are a taxpaying user (resident or owner) and your motorized watercraft has not been on any body of water other than Selby Lake, you do not have to go to the wash station. However, a sticker is MANDATORYTo obtain a sticker, please complete the form available here and return it to the Town Hall: PDF

These measures promote rich and healthy biodiversity and prevent the spread of invasive alien species (IAS) such as zebra mussels and Eurasian watermilfoil.  For more information regarding IAS, please consult the following website: Alien invasive species (credelaval.qc.ca)

The watercraft wash station will be installed at the municipal garage located at 130 Malenfant Road, Dunham.  The service is FREE and a certificate of completion will be given to you once your watercraft has been washed.

The watercraft wash service will be available on the following weekends in 2022**:
  • June 24-25-26, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM (the Fête nationale du Québec weekend)
  • July 1-2-3, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM (Canada Day weekend)
  • September 2-3-4, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM (Labour Day weekend)
